Grading & Report Cards
Grading Policy
The DOL (Demonstration of Learning) Summary Grade reflects where the student ended each day, not where they started. For example: If a student started at an L, but through LSAE support moved to an S2, the teacher would record a performance in the S2 range (80–89) for that day. The classroom teacher determines where the student falls within each score range based on observed performance and progress. The classroom teacher is responsible for determining the overall weekly DOL Summary Grade based on the end-of-day status for each day of the week.
| Performance Level | Score Range (Rubic) | Score Range (Grade) | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| L - Learner | 2.5 - 2.9 | 60 - 68 | I do not yet understand today's objective. I need continued support from the teacher and will remain in the classroom for reteach. |
| S1 - Securing 1 | 3.0 - 3.4 | 70 - 78 | I partially understand the objective. I need more time and support from the teacher to secure my learning. I will stay in the classroom. |
| S2 - Securing 2 | 3.5 - 3.9 | 80 - 89 | I fully understand the objective. I am ready to continue practicing independently or with a partner in the Team Center. |
| A - Accelerated | 4.0 - 5.0 | 90 - 100 | I have mastered the objective and am working at an accelerated level. I will work independently or with a partner in the Team Center. |
Gradebook Input
Subjects taught five days a week, such as Math and Reading, must have two grades entered each week. One of these grades must be the DOL Weekly Summary Grade, while the second is at the teacher’s discretion based on additional assessments, assignments, or classwork. Subjects taught two to three times per week, including Science, Social Studies, Science of Reading (SOR), and Art of Thinking (AOT), require one grade per week. Additionally, teachers are responsible for entering all district-mandated assessment grades, such as Mid-Cycle and End-of-Cycle Assessments, into the gradebook each cycle in accordance with HISD Curriculum Department Guidelines.
